Dear Mr. Garg,This has happened as there is No Application of Mind by FM and GST Council. It is logical whether it is individual or group health insurance there should be no GST. Regards,Mohit Pande   On Thursday, November 6, 2025 at 09:40:31 AM GMT+5:30, H.P. Gurg wrote: H.P. Gurg H.P. We have Group Health Insurance Policy for Senior Citizens. I understand that this is not exempted from 18% GST. This is not right. Govt must reconsider it and exempt it from 18% GST. more
From a tax‑policy fairness point of view: it seems inconsistent that diamond (a luxury) is taxed very lightly while something like insurance (which has social welfare implications) was taxed much more — until the recent reform. From an administrative/policy reason point of view: there may be reasons why diamond/precious‐gem sector has very low GST (to promote exports, etc) while insurance was at 18% because it was considered a financial service. Importantly: the reform to exempt individual health & life insurance from GST is positive, and addresses one perceived unfairness. But the real test is whether the benefit reaches consumers (via lower premiums or higher take‑home value) rather than just a headline rate change. more
