Make My Trip - Booking - Open Cheating

All, I wanted to bring to the notice of people who might intend/unknowingly book a trip via MMT (Make My Trip). I wondered how ministry of tourism or concerned deptts are leaving these clauses unscrutinized which are totally and clearly to cheat public. On top of it no one comes for help when the matter is escalated even to govt authorities (registered a complaint via DARPG - DARPG/E/2016/20040).
The story is I planned a trip to Kerala for a week and the package was fixed @ 78k which was told to be rounded off to 75k, I have paid 15k as advance almost 30days before the travel date. 2nd payment was due on 23rd Nov but I had unforseen emergency due to which the trip was to be cancelled, as soon as I realized I tried to approach and them by replying to email, call and also cancelling thru their portal, none worked and after a week I still could see no update nor a call etc., from MMT. I then reinitiated the cancellation process after which a few calls occured, surprisingly their calculation goes like this; in the event of cancellation before <20 to 11 days 20% of total package cost which is 78k in my case was to be paid back - does that sound easy?
Who would like to pay 20 of the trip which was never taken??
I also tried to get their escalation matrix or see if someone above would come in contact and be reasonable (20% of advanced paid to cover any cancellations was still fair?)

None returned and just said you will not get any money back which is alarming!

Now... am I a customer covered by the governing rules to help and void such fraud by the companies or just see what's going on?
I am speechless and totally frustrated looking at the attitude, behavior and the way companies operate today!!

No rationale, no ethics, no care, just cheat and run away with such hard earned money and then becomes black money??

comments, help appreciated! more

You can also go to Agoda.Com website and see the price difference if you book directly to Hotel website/Make my Trip/etc. They debit only USD 1 while booking and final amount shall be debited three/four days from check-in. more
When booking hotels it is better to book directly with the hotel. You may identify a suitable hotel through any of the travel portals like Make my trip, Cleartrip or any others. Get the name of the hotel, read the reviews and if it suits you contact the hotel directly. You may even be able to bargain for a discount. It is suggested that you book OYO rooms wherever possible as these come with a guarantee of certain facilities. Recently I had booked rooms in Mysore through where it was mentioned that the rooms were AC. When I checked in I found that one room was AC the other was not. The Reception informed me that the rate paid was for non AC rooms. However I insisted that I wanted AC rooms whereupon I was shifted to a lower floor, much superior rooms and both were AC. You must stand up for your rights when you travel. more
I have gone through couple of such mishaps with MMT. Due to its beautiful website and being a pioneer I was booking all my air travel through MMT. However, twice it happened that amount deducted but ticket not confirmed. To get back the money was really a nightmare with several calls and lot of frustration. There standard answer is you will get money back after 3 days. Any mail gets standard computer generated answer and no further it goes. So if you plan to fight I will support the cause. MMT is large, cash rich and arrogant and should be taught a lesson for their malpractices. more
Dear Kris Mohan I also faced the same situation and then bound to file case in Consumer forum also complain to M O Tourism but no response "for illogical act" of company. Mine is little different. Pl have a look. : Illogical treatment by makemytrip and Jet airways Hello Members i wish to inform that the matter in between makemytrip and Jet airways for Hongkong – Macao tour. I booked tour with Makemytrip, on the day of departure from Delhi, i reported / SHOW to jet airlines counter at delhi airport well before 5 hours of flight departure but unfortunately I was holding old Passport, hence could not travel on the day. I requested to Makemytrip for one day later journey which he agrees and I arrange new passport from my house by spending about Rs. 40000. The rest of tour programme sight seeing hotels journey will remain same as per original programme of tour baring first day. Now I need to buy again both way air ticket as per Makemytrip which was not possible for me Nor it was justified as I was holding return ticket as per original programme,, resulted I lost the tour costing me Rs. 155872. Here I wish to say it was MILIBHAGAT of airline and tour operator. I insisted Makemytrip very much for almost 6 hours several talks but they were not agree to perform journey by fresh only onward journey ticket by next day ,for that I could manage funds. Requesting for comments more
Most of the companies in India are fraudulent only. Once MMT book one hotel for me in Kanyakumari which was about 5 kms away from main Kanyakumari market. However in site they said its beach hotel. Even hotel do not have tea/coffee & catering facility and there was no near by restaurants too. Every time we need to travel along with my wife and daughter by auto for tea/coffee and food etc. They made our life so difficult that I decided not to use any such agency especially MMT for travel planing. Now question of legal fighting in your case, it will be much more difficult in our country than advised. They may show fine prints to court and get rescued. Still I feel you may organize one forum with some bank account we may pool money and make one campaign to defame (rather expose) MMT,s evil design of business. It will certainly hurt their business. more
