Liquor Sales and Consumption - Inputs on Key Issues

Dear Friends,

Some of you had earlier suggested that this subject be taken up for review.

While the objective of this post is by no means to ban liquor in India, it is to drive the bad (corruption, illegal sales, sales to minors, deaths due to bad liquor, drunken driving, etc) out of the liquor sales and consumption supply chain.

With this post, we would like you to list the key issues relating to Liquor Sales and Consumption in India.

Once we know the key issues, we will review Root Causes and Solutions through separate posts with the objective of submitting a whitepaper to the key Government authorities who can take necessary actions on the subject.

I look forward to your participation!

We should ban all liquors, cigarette and other deadly items, Govt provides all such things to public and then keep doing survey on which is good and spending lots of money on it instead they can ban and use that money for other improvements more
In the recent past there used to be signboards on evry Bus stand with Mahatma Gandhi's Message: "Sarab Sharir aur Atma Dono Ko Nast Karta Hai". Later on the pressure of the Liquor mafia these were removed. Can these be again brought back? Can the government encourage the younger generation to go for traditional drinks like lassi, coconut water etc. through special kiosks /vendors giving special license so that the quality if not compromised at a reasonable rates. more
Wine shops should be strictly prohibited to operate near schools/hospitals, they should not be given permission to set up shop at least inside 1 km radius from the school/hospital. Wine shops have parking space but what is the point of having parking space and to ban drunken driving?? Either they have to ensure at least one person in the group is not drunk so that he/she can take others who are drunk in the vehicle. more
More liquor shops than any other shops are generally seen everywhere is an indicator of our fall!Country liquors should be banned.Branded liquor shop licence should be permitted one in a taluk/district head quarters before totally banning liquor.Unlike in western countries because of the cold climate,it is a luxury to Indians. more
its possible ? not only band bt stop all production of liquor in india? more
