Let us all be a part of people’s movement to conse

Dear All,
It is difficult to survive without water. However, we need to recognize how important it is to preserve this blessing of our nature. Recent example of state of Maharastra in general, and District Latur in particular, should be an eye opener for all of us.

It is high time that all of us should concentrate on saving of water in our area. I request our team members to come out with their suggestions/ experience how to conserve water?
I have few proposals mentioned below but we need more concrete and practical suggestions from this brilliant forum.

Our rivers have become shallow due to deposition of silt over the years and their storage capacity has come down. There is need to initiate a mass movement in villages to construct small check-dams and deepening of upstream area by removing debris. This will improve water storage for cultivation as well as for drinking water.
In the past kings and rich merchants were donating money and land for constructing ponds to store rain water for use in dry season. Number of well, constructed in the past, have become useless for want of proper maintenance. They can be re energized by shrimadan by villagers. more

1. The existing Rivers , Canals , Streams , irrigation Canals are to be set for clearing the stagnated Mud , Sand etc., to bring the original depth which was arrested since after 1990 one way due to Government involvement on one pretext or the other and ; the other is the acute poverty and lack of lively hood opportunities which made the voluntary and use oriented practice of past . 2. All the Reservoirs and Tanks and Ponds are to be Resurveyed , deepened and guarded with the then existing Channels , Streams and Rain water routing canals of water to these . 3. All the States are to take up new formation of Water preserving / harvesting Ponds and Tanks in and around all the Villages and Municipalities as presently the Telangana and the residue Andhra Pradesh States have taken up with vested prime interest . 4. All States shall direct under a compulsory law , all the Municipalities and Villages to allocate un-cemented / non-stoned / un-concreted Earthen Place open to sky at least ONE FOOT width around each House to allow the Rain openly used Waters in addition to Water Harvesting Pits under Municipal administration . 5. As an exemplary promotion , one retired officer of IMS in Secunderabad , Hyderabad formed a Cellar specially for 4 feet depth water preservation Tank unexposed to Sun and Sky , Collecting the Rain Waters fully with well planned sufficient piping and routes routing the waters to this Cellar Tank AND HAS BEEN UTILIZING THESE WATERS FOR ALL USES . Though this water do not contain any contamination and spoilage strictly due to NOT BEING EXPOSED TO SUN AND SKY , for Drinking purpose only , they are using Govt. Drinking water. ofcourse , this tenders one time investment and committed self interest . RAIN WATERS OF AND IN ALL TOWNS AND CITIES ARE BEING TOTALLY IGNORED FOR PRESERVENCE WHICH THE GOVERNMENTS ARE TO PASS ON TO STREAMS ROUTING TO TANKS AND RESERVOIRS INSTEAD OF LETTING TO DRAINS . more
Ground water recharging is must in all dry regions . more
Could not agree more. Water is universal friend of mankind. In fact water is life. Do conserve. more
USE OF SOLAR ENERGY TO CONVERT SEA WATER TO POTABLE WATER I do not understand why we are not able to utilizing solar energy to convert sea water into potable water in our country. Countries like Saudi Arabia are converting saline water in to portable water and meeting demand of their cities and also feeding visitors during haj period. They are using oil fired burners where as we can use concentrated solar rays to heat sea water. We can use solar heating instead of oil heaters. The process is very simple. Sea water passing through pipes is heated up to 120 degree centigrade and then flashed in chambers having vacuum. The generated vapors are cooled by incoming water running in steel tubes. The condensate water droplets collected over the cooling tubes drops in to the tray located below the cooling tubes and is transferred to storage tank. Subsequently, this water is polished and after adding required minerals sent for use as potable water. more
