Kanwarias
In all my years of living in Gurgaon since 2001,I have never been witness to violence by Kanwarias.I have definitely disliked tremendously the noise the loud music makes at pandals all over the NCR and the mess around(but then we are not particularly careful about cleanliness in general , are we?)Recently, the trucks with loud music loaded with Kanwariyas is an affront to the ears.
I am personally shocked at this violent behavior of the Kanwariyas.I cannot endorse this behaviour at al,l,in fact I condemn it but why is it happening?I have not personally seen them committing violence.

My question is -were they Kanwarias?There is an outside chance that the lot has changed.However,I have been around in Gurgaon since 2001 and have never seen them misbehave.I, a woman, have often been driving or walking solo.

I have an issue with their travelling on trucks(and ,of course,the accompanying din their sound systems are making).But I have a question here-why are they not walking?Why are they taking the easy way going by truck? It is all about piety.Also,walking solo would discourage any 'herd instinct' behaviour.Maybe the administrations governing he NCR are rushing them through the NCR on trucks? Is that not getting in the way of the piety of the Kanwarias.I am the wiser today for my own response(to Punekars) while living in Pune -similar to ones of others here who have expressed an opposite view to mine.In Pune, Punekars consider it a matter of pride hosting the streaming multitude of Warkaris devoutly walking their way to the shrine of Pandharpur.Similarly, the followers of Lord Ayyappa,walking their way,often barefoot,in Kerala. I have never seen them considered an obstruction ,either.Or,for that matter,the Christian processions around Lent in Kochi.
I am not in favour of religious processions adding to the daily traffic mayhem,but I think there should be protocols for managing whatever outward,mobile show of piety happens in this country.

I also agree that Kanwarias should be well regulated. In all my years of visiting Rishikesh I find that it is in the last few years that an element of rowdiness and roguishness has crept into this age old faith-based practice. The simple Kanwars in old times were made of bamboo and clay pots - totally biodegradable. The sounds were human - devoid of abominable DJs, silencer removed motor cycles, and shrill horns. The old pilgrims also did not leave behind the huge residues of dirt and garbage that are legacy of these 'modern' picnic-making kanwarias. I have shifted to Rishikesh from Delhi and lived here for past two years. I find the social and physical environment changing and encroaching into the serenity and peace of this pilgrim town. NCR-ites tut-tutting away at the Kanwariyas need to remember when they undertake their pilgrimages to Vaishno Devi and their vacations in the Himalayas,that they may probably be considered no less a hindrance. more

We need to develop culture of praying without paraphernalia. My son was admitted to AIIMS this week. However, the noise in front of the hospital was too inconvenient for patients due to both noise and lot of traffic jam. This is not the only religious festival where human beings suffer in the name of God. As far as I learnt from my parents, no God would support such actions. This problem is not limited to one religion or sect and we need to improve simultaneously and harmoniously to improve the situation where Gods support human empathy and do not cause inconvenience. more

I know all the Kanwadiyas are not hooligans. Some are real devotees but the real kanwadiyas are being defamed by such elements. Previously, the kanwadias had great respect among the people, but now they are losing the respect because of such elements. So it is better to take some steps by the Govt. to curb the hooligans who create problems and troubles not only for the general public but also for real kanwadias more

कावड़इयो के लिये ट्रैफिक पुलिस हर स्टेट की एक रूट कयो नहीं बनाती जिस से की आम आदमी को परेशानी ना झेलनी पड़े और कावड़इयो की यात्रा निर्धारित रूट पर ही चले साथ ही साथ हर स्टेट की पेट्रोलिंग पुलिस यह जाँच भी करे की किसी कावड़इये के पास बेस बॉल हॉकी आयरन रोड या ऐसी कोई खतरनाक चीज ना हो जिस से की झगड़े की स्तिथि मे किसी को जान से मार दिया जाये और यदि कोई अपने साथ किसी किसम का खतरनाक सामान ले कर चलता हुआ पाया जाता है तो कानून का उलंघन करने के जुर्म मे हवालात मे बंद करना चाहिए जिस से की अनुशाशन कायम रहे और कावड़ का त्यौहार आराम से मनाया जा सके चूकि लाउड स्पीकर और जनरेटर पूरी तरहा से प्रतिबंधित है और हॉस्पिटल्स और हर्दय पेशेंट्स के लिये तथा एन्वॉयरमेंट के लिये सब से ज्यादा हानिकारक है इस लिये इन्हे पेट्रोलिंग पुलिस, ट्रैफिक पुलिस के दवारा जब्त कर लेना चाहिए और कावड़ खत्म होने के बाद भारी जुर्माने के साथ छोडना चाहिए ताकि सब को पता रहे की कानून वयवस्था सब ही स्टेट्स मे कायम है more

Dear urvijee I read your comment but read my comment i ask if all states police make a special route for kanwariya they get the security themself as well as local public too as heard every year that a big fight between kanwaria and local public both did not comes in each other route
