Junk Food Marking of letter (J)

Can FSSAI look at developing a standard where certain foods based on their nutrition value are classified as Junk Food. All these food products like soft drinks, chips, pizzas, high cal biscuits could have a marking called (J) All (J) foods henceforth could become easily identifiable for buyer when shopping as most indians do not understand nutrition table. I have seen my colleagues in pas gulping down 4 packets of glucose biscuit because they didnt know better.

The (J) foods wont be served in school and if kids are made aware, they can make better choices. Every brand has to carry it on their packaging.

Please give your ideas on this.

If FSSAI makes it easier like this, it will lead to healthier food choices.

The concept of fortification often leads to be a deterrent for supply of organic food and must be avoided. Artificial addition of nutrients is only a step forward to support the cause of commercialization of the staple food of our country. As many respected people have pointed out earlier that vested interest to earn money in the name of fortification will grow and the MNC's will again use it against the health of common people to create wealth instead of value addition. more
Ms Radha Puri, It is a good suggestion. However, that will be difficult to implement at a national level. What best FSSAI can do is test products that are sold by the vendor and issue public notification a warning for public awareness. Also they can take action against the vendors to rectify the problem. Thanks more
