Is the cut on petrol diesel actually good?

India has cut excise duty on petrol and subsidised gas

The net impact on government finances is a hit of 1.5L crore to 2L crore ($30Bn)

The government will need to borrow more at higher rates to fund this gap

We will eventually pay for this via inflation or tax more

The time has come when Govt must GET RID OF UNWANTED LIABILITIES. First is Population Control. Second is Deport all Illegal Immigrants. Third is All HARD CORE CRIMINALS and ECONOMIC OFFENDERS must be given CAPITAL PUNISHMENT. Laws and Judiciary needs Introspection for Faster Settlement of Cases. We must have only 2 Party System, this will reduce the so many Problems. Quality of Politicians has to Improve a Lot. All Offenders must be debarred. If there is a case pending against a Politician then he/she must be suspended. Do not wait till it is Proved. more
Govt. has many avenues to generate revenue and cut expenditure & use the fund purposefully. Imposing huge tax on Petrol & Disel is not the only option to generate huge revenue. Yes, it's an easy option but common people are at pain. Govt. should identify the ways judiciously without harming public interest and maintains it's economic strength. more
Good question. No, for now the government will simply make the taxpayer pay. Why make costs being borne in a roundabout manner thereby leading to immediate sense of relief that is entirely false. Meanwhile making fossil fuels cheap by in a way subsidising them promotes their use, especially when the cheaper one is more polluting. Polluter should pay, and that too at source. Do we have the gumption for such a decisive step? more
I guess GOI and it's economic advisers know what they are doing. We will strain our brains when the need arises. more
Inflation switches item to item. We control it changing the items time to time. more
