Insurance companies take original docs

Why do insurance companies ask patients to submit original medical records with their claim ? What’s worse is they don’t return these to the patient even after the payment has been made. Hasn’t the Supreme Court ruled that medical records are the property of the patient?

Can LC manager take this up please? more

Keep photocopies thereof, and mark these "claimed". Preventing multiple claims. However, this method is primitive. Alternately, electronic tagging claimed medical docs possible? more
Medical Record could be stamp by the Insurance Co. to avoid misuse and return the originals by keeping the photo copies for their record. more
I believe the original documents should be sent back once the claim settlement is done. more
If photocopies are accepted, there are chances of manipulation and filing multiple claims. After all this is great INDIA. more
It appears that Insurance Companies insist on submission of original medical records to ensure duplicate claim is not made. more
