Inflation vs Agriculture

There is a constant rise in food items and all are waiting for the day when there will be less inflation on agricultural items. Unless we (the new govt) find(s) reason for it, there is no other way to curb it. Main reason being mismatch of demand and supply. Also there is no way to reduce the demand because of population and there is no substitute for food. Only way is to raise supply. I suggest we should start the initiative of registering all farmers and their agricultural land. Soil test of all land to be carried out. and farmers to be given suggestion to do that cultivation which suits their land. Incentives to be given to dig bore in non irrigation fields. All farmers mandatorily to take insurance at the subsidized rate to save them from uncertainty. Quality seeds to be provided to them at Govt. entres at subsidized rate. In case there is loss of crop, Farmers to report to concerned authority as soon as possible but not later than 7 days from the date of event and concerned officials to report to insurance company within next 7 days. All insurance claim to be settled within 15 days from the date of report of insurance surveyor. Agricultural items should have less taxation. Subsidy amount on purchase of agricultural equipment to be increased. Adequate help line numbers to be set up for grievance redressal. Krishi (Agri) Education should be broadcasted widely in all TV and radio channels.

Time has come to think a bit wide to promote Agriculture. more

Cooperative markets should be setup all over the country to beat the inflation and farmers getting the right price for their products. Agriculture needs to be give utmost push from budgetary and guidance perspective. Linking of rivers across the country is one of the major step to be taken, because in everyday news we see 2-3 flood and remaining drought situations. Linking of river would atleast ease some of the areas from droughting and others from flooding. Now it is very clear, after Onion was brought under Essential commodities act, the prices of it did not raise as steep as other times and suddenly Tomato started increasing. Either all vegetables needs to be brought under Essential Commodities or strong actions to be taken against the hoarders. It is not an actual supply vs. demand reaction, it is created. more
I agree that the prices are rising but what is the root cause?? I feel that the natural resources are fixed and limited. The variable is the consumption due to increase in population. Demand for land, food , jobs etc. will increase with population. Poverty also will increase if population is not controlled. The Govt's long range plan should be to curb the population growth which is the root cause of all subsequent problems of rises. Controlling of short range problems is required but they are like fire fighting, you control in one form at one place can arise new form at other place more
In addition the Govt should also explore the possibility of moving from traditional Corp production to more beneficial outputs especially in hilly regions of Uttarakhand. Technology and knowledge of secondary market is yet to reach these places. A well monitored initiative will benefit the deprived people and Govt at large. more
I agree with the suggestion of farmer registration along with the land owned by each one. This will result in estimating the yield in advance giving Govt enough time to respond to any shortfall. The demand and supply can be well maintained and prices can be kept in control. There is a requirement of strict monitoring of all the produce from agricultural business. India is flooded with resources in every area including human capital. Enhancing skills and employment in this area is need of the hour. Today the people of India are with Narendra Modi to lead the country on the path of development. Namo should explore this opportunity. more
