Farmers producer Companies (FPCs)being promoted by various agencies may play an important role in curbing inflation subject to proper marketing space to FPCs is provided by local bodies. FPCs will sell their produce directly to consumers such as pulses, fruits and vegetables. Dear Friends, I wud like to give my view on food inflation. As we all are aware that majority of States (except Bihar or NE States) are having Agriculture Produce Market Committee (APMC) Act through which each market yard (means Mandi) is having its command area (may be 50 to 500 villages/mandi).Farmers bring their produce to APMC and auction takes place. Prices given to farmers are considered wholesale prices and wholesale traders sell the produce to downward chain means retailers/vendors, etc. If locally produce vegetables is sold four times higher than wholesale prices on same day means maximum retail prices (MRP) has to be fixed by local bodies. Licenses to each retailer/vendors for a particular locality may be issued and proper list of MRP fixed by local bodies has to be displayed by the vendors. MRP may be fixed just double of wholesale prices. It will improve income of the local bodies, reasonable price for consumers and quality of produce by vendors. more
