India shouldn't allow Facebook for kids

Bad news parents is that Facebook is coming for your kids. The social media giant is launching a messaging app for children to chat aimed at kids under 13, who can't yet have their own accounts under Facebook's rules, though they often do.

Believe it or not this will be a disaster. Kids 5-6 year olds are now having their youtube accounts and soon they will have facebook accounts. Its so hard to say no to your children when 3 of their 5 friends have it.

Can we please take this up for discussion friends? more

Even without the 'Face Book for Kids' our children/kids are getting access right on reaching two years of age to all kind of latest gadgets including the smart phones and are becoming masters in operating them within a couple of months, which we couldn't achieve even after 10 years of use. Watching cartoons and other programmes on TV by children on regular basis has become a routine in every house holds and they very conveniently operate the TV and the Set Top Box from all aspects, which at least I can't do. Under such a situation, I do not think that 'Face Book for Kids' on arrival will do any extra harm to our children. more
Hello Jain Sir do not blame India it is parents mistake why they give mobile phone their child hands. more
Considering harmful proven effects of WiFi / internet signals to human especially children, many Citizens of advanced countries including USA, are encouraging/ ensuring their children are away till at the age of 13/14 years. Govt to issue WHITE PAPER on it at the earliest before it has done harm to our children... more
Ban! Ban!! Ban!!! Harsh action need be taken if any child, below 14 years of age, is found to be in 'facebook'. more
I hope very much that we get in this Circle several suggestions on how to find solutions. You see, peer pressure has always played a singular part in the children's growth. This was true when we were growing up, and this is equally true, when our children/grandchildren are passing through that phase of life. DIFFERENCE is the "exposure" and the environment.........both are different today from what they were fifty years ago. Fact also is that professionally active parents today do not have or do not take time to spend together with their children. This can lead to juvenile delinquency in children, because they remain unattended. After the second WW Germany faced this huge problem..........parents worked long hours, parents were installed in old-peoples'-homes and kids after returning from school had no one to talk to. Unattended children will always run the risk of having juvenile tendencies because "an idle brain is a devil's workshop"........we were taught in our childhood. Now to address the situation Ms Shikha has posted. 1. Parents should not and cannot have any excuse for not being there for the kids. Putting profession before children would end up being a wrong decision. 2. Parents and children must have their evening meal together at the same table/kitchen. 3. Introduction of "family prayers" on every Sunday and holiday should be made part of the time-table. And, all these three steps should begin when the kids are 2 years or even less. Bonds built at that age will continue to strengthen and survive over the years. And when it is the biological time for them to run amuck (adolescence for boys and puberty for girls) parents would find it easier to pull the reigns in time to bring them on track. Having said all that, one golden rule is that when parents are trying to discipline their children, ALL others around them MUST remain silent and not interfere. Best of Luck! more
