Improving the State of Education - Inputs Needed on Solutions

Dear Friends:

Here is a summary of your inputs on the Root Causes for the current state of the education system. Kindly review them and if something key is missing, please add to the list as a comment to the post.

Root Causes for Current State of Education:

1. Government has put in limited efforts to improve or at least effectively maintain the Government school system over time
2. Laid back attitude of the teachers of government schools
3. Teacher recruitment process for Government school is archaic and involves corrupt practices
4. Salary of a government teacher is far less than that of a private school which detracts good talent
5. Prevailing Education policies of the Government are demotivating the teachers as well as students
6. Teacher to student ratio is really low in Government schools
7. Lack of a performance matrix for government school teachers
8. Many school teachers pay more attention to private tuition than school classes
9. The passion for teaching is missing
10. No regulations to bring uniformity to school syllabus across the country
11. Blind westernization of educational system
12. Lack of holistic education
13. A lot of parents still have the old mindset that sport is not a career!
14. Education itself is losing its purpose. The students go to schools and collages just to earn degree rather than the learning
15. Too much dependency on books rather than practical knowledge
16. Punishment for physical abuse (touching/pushing/beating/making kids kneel on floor/not mentioning extremes here) by teachers not codified in criminal procedure code
17. The process of giving license to Private Schools is ridden with corruption
18. No laws governing the fee hike in private schools and colleges.

Based on the above root causes, let us now identify specific solutions that we can take to the Government for implementation. Let us be as specific as possible in order for these solutions to be actionable.

Thanks for your continued participation!
