Improving State of Defence in India - Key Issues

Dear Friends:

Similar to Railways, Indian Defence is in need of transformation. If done effectively, it can secure our country better (land, sea, air), create a large number of Government and Private jobs and significantly improve India's standing in the world.

Through this post, we would like you to list all the issues with Indian Defence and its industry.

Once we know the Issues, we will work on Root Causes and Solutions with the objective of submitting a comprehensive whitepaper to the new Defence Minister.

I look forward to your inputs!

I strongly believe that the white paper that was concluded on this State of Defence in India read with the Joint March of America and India in Technological Development and the Defence Sector is in its positive line of implementation . If not , these two are to be fast taken-up please . more
Corruption and advertisement of each and every move the Indian Army is making in the news media must be stopped. Follow US model for this. more
In a hierarchical organisation where promotion is determined more and more by reservation and/or politics you will not attract or retain the best people. Investment is required in equipment, people, r&d but most of all ensure that it is operated by professionals and that politicians do not call the shots. Create job tracks to join army also if you have worked years at IT company for example and also vice a versa. Give those that have served the nation special privilege and status. Give people who are unemployed longer than 1 year the option to join the forces for a decent salary with a good education if they have not had that yet. Like the Israeli army make it a serious option for women too. more
> Corruption in procurement > Corruption in ministry and middle men takes the huge chunk of our precious budget > Focus on quantity and not the quality of warfare capabilities > Extremely slow and ineffective DRDO agency still producing obsolete equipment's > Extremely slow and bureaucratic process for procurement the fighter jet order is still not finalized by the time this is finalized and planes are delivered a whole new generation of planes would have emerged.... more
