Improvement in Indian Postal services

I had used Indian Postal service to send an envelope to USA by registered post. The receipt of registration came with a tracking number. I can track the movement of the consignment through this number. We did get a tracking advice but was dismayed to find that the destination was not mentioned. A toll free help line number (1800 1120110) was also provided. So I called the number and was confronted with a recorded message "all our operatives are busy please be on line" I listened through this message through out the day.

Can India Post improve these services so that they can compete with FEDex, DHL and other couriers? We desire to use Indian entities but are constrained by their indifference and inefficiencies. more

Quite agree with honourable Kunal Sir, about the lack of proper customer care back up for Indian postal and telegraph services. Human resources wise I found them one of the most humble staff I have dealt with in various cities. These staff were one of the most lowly paid so called central govt employees for ages. I am not sure whether things have improved any better now. They can have one of the best infrastructure and if they can be supported by proper technology back up and training in handling customers driven by some financial incentives things will work magically well and give a tough competition to the big time MNC courier services. As a matter of fact even the staff of private sector courier agencies is quite lowly paid. Kind regards, Rajesh more
Its good at least recorded voice is there. But mostly Toll free numbers never replies .,goes on rings or no sound at all. more
It is a sad commentary on the postal services. And toll free numbers are mostly unhelpful hazards- all mechanical jibbing more
India Post are more familiar with door-to-door delivery. The nex-gen in the department sit in air-conditioned comfort, doing nothing. The IVRS in all departments/enterprises of the government act as a wall between the consumer and the government, protecting the latter from the former. We will have to live with this. more
