I have a simple question about GST which I hope somebody in this circle will be able to answer. Last few days a lot of shopkeepers have been asking for very high prices for their stuff and blaming it on GST. Is it not mandatory for the shopkeepers to give pukka receipts to the customers stating clearly the GST they are charging so they can pay that amount to the government? Because without that receipt it can be safely assumed that the shopkeepers are just cheating the hapless customers. Am I right? more

Yes u r perfectly right.the govt.& the machinery is breaking their heads to bring these Traders and service providers in to books but they t trying to escape, evade, confùse to avoid incidence of payment of due Tax to govt under Sgt Route which is a straight forward goog system of Tax computation.most of the business people who were enjoying by evasion is not able to escape/tand not able to tolerate . It will be ok. more
Some businessmen are deliberately enhancing the prices of goods (which are actually not to be hiked by legal provision) in the name of GST and also scaring the people even price rising of exempt goods. It is completely dishonesty from the business people. Actually prices will come down in approximately 80% goods, but our country does not move on true facts. Strong measures are to be taken against these corrupted earners in the name of GST in unlawful way on the basis of specific goods & invoice-wise complaint. Whereas in many cases u will see the price reduction in MRP items, price reduction of some goods as declared by the different companies. Only the dishonest and long-time tax evaders are enhancing the prices and scaring the people. more
Do not buy without receipt. And if you feel the price charged is illegal, take them to Consumer Court. more
ONLY COMPUTERISED/PRINTED BILL WITH DESCRIPTIONS OF GOODS AND VALUE AND SEPARATELY GST MUST BE SHOWN. IN ABSENCE OF PRINTED BILL YOU CAN REFUSE TO PAY GST. FURTHER DEALER SHOULD MENTION HIS GST NOS ON THE INVOICE/ BILL. ELSE IT WILL BE DEALER'S ADDITIONAL PROFIT AND WILL NOT GO TO EXCHEQUER. more
You are right - for all goods with Printed MRP - prices can not be more than MRP mentioned on Product. Secondly - Shopkeeper must issue invoice which should clearly show Basic Value of Goods and GST applicable thereon. We have three type of retailers - Unregistered - they can not charge GST, Composition Dealer (trader)- can only charge 1% GST, Regular dealer - can charge regular tax as applicable to product being purchased. more
No pakka bill possible without govt provides everification facility per GSTN registration number. Govt need to provide vide billing system part if GSTN if they are serious abt corruption more
