MUMBAI: Heart patients in the state, including in Mumbai, pay 700% more than the import cost for stents, revealed the first-ever cost survey by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The survey has also shown that the maximum retail price (MRP) itself is majorly exaggerated and depends on the whims and fancies of distributors or other middle agencies.
The FDA, during a six-month-long survey, tracked a multi-national company that imports stents from the West and sells it to Indian distributors. The investigation exposed unregulated profit-mongering at each step of the supply chain. The report said that company importing the stents itself made a profit of 120% before selling it to the distributors. more

It is really very astonishing that the government is not awakening inspite of so much hue n cry on the price of stents where the private hospitals and government hospital are taxing the poor Indians with 700% profits on the stents. I think it is very true when we say the our goverment is being run on the God's mercy. No body is worried about Indian people. The AAP government in Delhi claims that 90% corruption has controlled but nothing is moving. I think all have their political agendas only and no worries about the people. People are left to die at the mercy of God. more

I read in news papers that ex factory price is Rs 18000/- only. In my earlier posts and comments I have also highlighted it. Why govt./private/foreign enterprises do not come forward to India to set up plant for manufacture of stents in a country second highest in heart diseases and going to reach no. 1 position shortly. If the doctors/hospitals can give specs., famous websites can deliver them at much cheaper prices. more

It is heartening that subject has been in the news even before this Government came in to power and the minister in charge himself is a doctor himself but nothing has been done in spite of his promise. This is the state of affairs of the Government which has completed its one year and this urgent matter has not been attended. This matter should have been attended by the minister in charge on top priority. The government can issue a notification to this effect and decide the price of these stents with one stroke immediately. God bless India. more
