GST rates in 5 star restaurants

GST rates for food items in restaurants were reduced to 5%. But still some 5 star hotels are charging 18% GST .
What is the correct position? Where can we see the official notifications on GST rates? more

Such matters of charging higher GST should be reported to GST enforcement unit for taking action. more
Yashpal ji
Thank you. But if the hotel has mix tariff rooms , some rooms having >₹7500 tariff , then should they charge 18% GST on restaurants across the board. more
Overall it seems that the Gabbar Singh Tax (GST) has been well designed and conceived to protect and enable Hotels to fleece people who have money to spend out in dining and can afford to foot the higher tax rates when they can dine out. This is called the slab within the slab to fool people...multiple rates taxes. Most people don't even check out the taxes if the same has been charged according to the prevailing rates. more
Thanks Krishnan and Yashpal for the update which was useful. more
Hotels have tariffs on room above 7500 will charge 18% more
