It goes without saying that all pharmaceutical products and the allied imolements must not carry heavy taxes on sales (GST/CGST ), and also the same must not be charged on beyond wholesale (First Point of Sales) point. this will be a great health care service to the people of India. similar should be the case of Oxygen Cylinder, Ventilators, syringes, etc. The Governments at the Centre and States have no business to be a buyer and marketer of these products in consonance with their policy "Government has no business to be in business." However, the Governments must be allowed to purchase any such medicines for consumption of government hospitals. At the same time, the governments at the Centre and States have to be cautious, alert, and effective to check and see that the chemists' trade does not charge any GST/CGST at any other point of sales in India, as they have had been doing in earlier case of Sales Tax/VAT where chemists trade have had been charging in the name of Local Taxes Extra without mentioning the same in the cash memos. I may mention that this was done during the previous regime of BJP and then President Justice (Retd. Judge of the S.C.) M.B Shah (Case No. NCDRC OP/65/2003 which need to be audited for its judicious disposal after more than 10-12 years.) more
There is a need to regulate the huge price difference between branded medicine and generic medicine having same salt. Once Govt is committed for health for all, there is no logic of levying GST on medicines. Govt should also extend Ayushman Bharat Scheme to middle class as a matter of fact for all. more
All depends on whether input credit is adequate. If input is denied, it will lead to higher MRP even though GST may reduce. more
