Govt wants to put GST on hospital beds costing > 5000/ day. In Delhi NCR hospitals (Max, Apollo, Fortis, Medanta, Ganga Ram etc) all Rooms cost more than this, perhaps even economy beds ! Cost of the treatment just went further up !
Can the circle members get this to be reversed. Will LC manager escalate this to FM and GST Council? more
Now it's the regime of imposing tax only. No one really knows how many CMs really contested it? Besides, revenue sharing is a long pending issue. Many states CMs are crying for long. Once Govt is in full majority & power in hand, things happen as leader sends a dictum to generate revenue only. more
This is a retrograde step but that common sense has to be there in all finance ministers and not only the FM of GOI. if majority of the council members oppose such a levy, GOI can't do anything. Perhaps, the necessity of imposing GST on certain items/ services should be examined by Courts on the mile stone of Public Interest. If something is not in Public Interest (Interest of Revenue Generation should not be considered as Public Interest. That seems to be the immediate solution if elected representatives don't act in interest of common man. more
PM has come out with the scheme for hospitalisation for BPL level people with insured sum of 5 lacs but for others, premium for mediclaim policies is exorbitant with 18% GST. For those employed, employers normally take corporate insurance which is competitive and absorbed by the employer. But this category does not realise that this insurance will not come to their rescue once they are out of service. So necessarily this category of people must take side by side must take mediclaim policy individually. Further percentage of such people going in for such policies is insignificant due to high premium. Government must look into this and come out with comprehensive and less expensive mediclaim policies so that more people avail this. In view of this GST exemption must be given to mediclaim policies. Unfortunate part of these policies is that they do not cover doctor consultations and visits which are very skyrocketted. This is covered in western countries. In view of this, GST on any hospital expenses must be waived. more
