GST on Co operative society

The housing society should be out of GST , The societies are being managed by the citizen and its thankless job. They takeout time from their family / job/ business for the common cause of the society. By burdening them with such complacence is not justified.
Also it is not clear, Total income means what ? Income from other sources + Maintenance contributed by the Members OR only income from other sources ??

Can some one throw some light? more

There is no clarity till now. Logically Housing societies are not making any commercial activity and not earning income thereon. What is being done is the common maintenance expenses are shared by all owners proportionately. Hence this amounts to reimbursement of expenses and no service or commercial activity. So GST should not be applicable for maintenance charges but can be applied if there is income from other activities like renting of hall, renting of furnitures etc, A clear cut explanation need to come from GST authoritieds more
there are some societies, who let out shops, give the hall for marriages and also by givig the tower for Cellphone company, These will be under the net of GSt if the turnover is over 20 lakhs. Otherwise there wil be no tax if the monthly charge from a member is rs 5000 more
Friends, it has already been clarified.Any cooeperative Hsg. Soc. or any agency like RWA providing maintenance services to flat onwers, Monthy maintenance bill upto Rs. 5000 is exemptd from GST. Furthr in charges like property tax, watr tax etc. are not tobe calculated for this 5000 limit. I have ghe Government notification on this as well as some Press news currings. But I do not know if local circles have got provision to attach that and how ? Those who wish to have that can be sent on email. My contct mail is : mohansiroya@hotmail.com more
Another thorough mess by our beloved PM. He has done so much for the select brainy industrialists, I wonder, why did he not take their help to make it perfect instead of half wit Jait. more
Dear Rajiv The association is not selling any product. The assciation is not charging for any service.Hence why you worry about the GST compliance? For goods or services availed by the assciation the supplier will charge you GST which you need to pay.Even GST is to be paid by individuals. Then why exclude Association? more
Yes it is a good question which millions of honest tax payers are asking with no answer. This is really killing most of the Resident Societies. more
This question needs to be clarified by the authorities in their FAQs. more
