Good initiative and a concern
I'd like to commend the department of consumer affairs and the localcircles for starting this consumer circle. till recently i didnt even know there was a ministry for consumer affairs. now coming to the issue, most companies in india that make gadget or appliances dont serve their warranty properly. their engineers instead ask consumer to upgrade to a newer version while the product had an inherent defect in the first place. sometimes warranty is not honoured because card/invoice is misplaced.
Can a rule be formed where defective products HAVE TO BE recalled by companies for fixing/replacement and then if a consumer buys a product they should be able to go online and register it and then just with their mobile no./email company should be able to service warranty.

consumer affairs department have already have a website wherein you can register your complaints and the opposing party does respond to your complaint. they also got a toll free no. on their site. i have had a good experience with this site until now. i have registered a case against karbonn mobiles for deficiency in service and they responded immediately to my complaint and the case is going on which i hope will be settled soon. more

My experience is that witin warranty period, most of the companies either service the product or give a replacement. If they do not have we have consumer forum and we can seek justice. Ministry of consumers affairs have lot to do than this. more

You have raised a good issue and normally product recall is done by many multi-national companies to keep their market reputation.So far, it is maintained through competition & reputation in India.But, for products with electronic gadgets inside, it is very difficult to predict the lifetime of the product. Normally, people would expect a minimum five to seven years lifetime. Govt. might impose rules for recall for little higher value products with inherent defective parts and through a specific complaint window for atleast 20% failure.
