FSSAI license and the Indian consumer

For a country of the size of India, the facilities available for testing and approval is very meager for FSSAI. Even the products with FSSAI approved labels make a mockery of Food Safety.
Even for the most commonly used ingredient in India, like Coriander powder pouch with a bold FSSAI license number , we can see the Total Fats of 10.25 gm in a pouch of 100 gm.

We , the consumers in India, trust only the FSSAI license label bt seldom go through the details printed. In many products coming in pouches, which are easily affected by air and moisture, the simple instruction ' transfer any remaining material to an air tight container after opening ' is seen missing

The negligence may seem very small, but its effect is enormous

I can list a large products commonly used in all households falling in this category more

Though it is absolutely right that Public do not read the information on pack but the enforcement agencies intentionally skip wrong or false information. Even the Laboratories only mentions on report that Ingredients and Nutritional Values as "GIVEN" and not concerned with actual or False but fails sample if not provided on the packaged food. This is the mockery of FSSA 2006 and Eat Right and Nutritious Food being promoted by FSSAI through celebrities. more
Only a limited percentage of our consumers understand the terms, such as, fats, saturated fats and so on printed on the packaging. In addition to these particulars, there should be certificate of the FSSAI on each packaging stating that the contents thereof are safe for human consumption. Meanwhile, the government should initiate necessary action to equip FSSAI with adequate staff and other required assistance so that it could discharge its duties in the required manner. The department should establish its branches in each state manned with adequate number of senior qualified officials, if already not done yet, as their efficiency directly effect the general health of the masses. more
A Precautionary note, like the contents section, to instruct the consumers regarding precautions to be taken for usage and storage, maybe highlighted on the packaging more
True. Independent testing agencies must be approved and must help citizens. It is pathetic that no testing center is available to test even the daily essential drink for all WATER FOR DRINKING. more
How do we get certified for ISO 900 or 14000 or BSI etc. We need to evole systems and procedure for the welfare of people. more
Who will vouch for the third party agencies ? more
fssai issues license only on the declaration of the FOOD BUSSINESS OPERATOR. They donot check the genuinity of the CLAIMS of all products more
