FSSAI and its ineffective enforcement mechanism

There is a news report today saying fssai has banned advertising of unhealthy foods like samosas, chips, soda, biscuits in 50 mtr surroundings of schools.

To me fssai needs to first have atleast a structured enforcement mechanism.

Still gutka is being sold near schools and there is very little if any enforcement. By cominv up with another policy without an enforcement model, FSSAI is just creating more confusion and wasting everyones time. more

If the news provided by Ms Anshu is authentic, then one can only sympathise with FSSAI on their punitive outlook and their inability to see the real problem. Do they think that by issuing such orders they would be able to prevent sale of burgers in the US or of Bratwurst in Germany? Let's be practical.....Banning does not help solve the problem. Just like sending a rapist to death cannot be a solution. Implementing prohibition in a region does not prevent people from drinking liquor; only they find devious paths to get it. Arab nations ordered cutting of a thief's arms and this was practiced for centuries, but has it prevented thieves from stealing even today in those countries? The problem needs a different approach that is mature, educated, social, emotional and which touches the community at large. That sends us to do some serious thinking ! more

In India we have departments that don't work. We have government employees fatly paid from our hard earned money. Yes we pay for their inefficiencies. more

There are lot of unhealthy foods in supermarkets. Fssai has no issues with them. They only whip small. more
