Fruits and Pesticides, Carbide etc.

Grapes - Fungicides are used more compared to insecticides as in brinjal or tomato. Fungicides are less poisonous compared to insecticides. Systemic fungicides and insecticides can't be removed by mere washing of fruits. However, for our satisfaction, we can soak them in water, change water for few times and also rinse the fruits before you consume them.

Guava - Not much pesticides are used (to the best of my knowledge). Comparatively safer bet. But watch out for maggots of fruitflies in guava, which may lead to diarrhoea in kids. Buy a clean looking fruit, wash it and consume. Preferably buy them when they are little green to get more Vit C.

Apples - No harm as far as know (Apples are stored for longer duration before reaching us). Sometimes they may have a mild wax coating, to preserve it. Just wash well and consume.

Mangoes: Not much direct treatment with pesticides. But they are artificially ripened, which is not good for our digestive system. Don't pick Mangoes from a vendor, where all mangoes look uniformly ripe. more

Very good observations about use and precaution to take for fruits. Organic farm produce should be used to avoid harmful effect of pesticide. more
Appreciate such inputs. Find some of these circles so useful to make informed decisions about small small things more
Very useful information given by Ms. Shikha Maheshwari. It will benefit all of us if similar precautionary guidelines are given for many other fruits, vegetables and grains, though we wash most of the items before cooking. That may not be adequate. Group can consolidate and circulate. Thanks to Ms. Shikha for this initiative and alert more
Greed has no limits. It is unfortunate the corporate culture with added aped western culture has even corrupted doctors. The behaviour of doctors has become deplorable. What can you expect from a community whose Chairman of their association was removed for corruption. The way doctors especially in the Corporate sector behave is worse than corruption where money is taken illegally. more
