Fortification issues

Can fssai please explain that as its pushes for fortification of so many foods, how will it control excess of vitamins and minerals in peoples body. For instance excess of vitamin b12 or vitamin d is a negative thing that can be caused due to fortification. I want fssai and others to give their opinion. more

Good idea for a malnourished nation but implementation needs to be seen how it is done and whether there will be any aftereffects of it need to be studied before taking it up is what is feel more
I think FSSAI and Health department should work unitedly to check this problem and find solutions. more
The Vit B12 Requirement age wise is attached. All the tablets give Just 15 micrograms / Tablet . As over & above that intake will not be absorbed due to intrinsic factor. And it will be wasteful. Even absorbed due to mass diffusion effect like large dose or Injection will be excreted as it is water soluble . Look out how much vit B12 is in fortified food in days quantity of food. Where as with Vit D it is a different issue . It is fat soluble , excess intake will be stored and will be toxic to the body . Regarding Vit D check up with a dependable Lab for the concentraton . When below 40 % , you will be prescribe high dose Vit D tablets for a suitable time to reach 100 % . more
slowly but sure, fortified food items are been promoted and push gby government and FSSAI. It started with iodised salt, refined oils, miik and now rice is under proposal. more
Before consuming any fortified foods it is better to consult experts to avoid this type of complications more
