Food for all - Key Issues

Dear Friends:

One of the key priorities highlighted by our circle on the day Modi Government was elected was " Food and Clean Drinking Water for all"

To further that, through this post let us discuss all the issues related to Lack of Food for all in India.

Please highlight all the issues related to Hunger and Food Supply Chain/Administration in India.

Once we identify all the issues, we will work on Root Causes and Solutions which are key to addressing this issue and submit the collective citizen whitepaper to the key Government stakeholders.

Let us share our views and work on availability of Food for all in India.

I look forward to your inputs!

Storage facilities should be improved! Lots of crops(be it grains, vegetables, fruits) get wasted every year because of the dearth of storage facilities. more and more cold storages should be built in villages especially near the intensively farmed areas. At the end of every harvest season or just before a particular batch can no longer be stored in a particular area, two things can be done to the leftover food: 1.distribute part of it among the poor farmers of that particular area, after all, those who give in all their life's effort in producing food for us deserve food themselves! 2.distribute the food among the govt. schools in the village. the crop can be distributed among the students of the school. This way the poor parents would also be encouraged to send their children to school. Secondly, another very important action that can be taken is that wasting of food beyond a certain limit, at the end of a day, should be made taxable for all hotels/restaurants/cafes/food stalls/food joints etc. The restaurants/cafes/hotels etc should distribute their food to the pavement dwellers, their own group-D staff, the labourers who work for them, and only then can they close for the day. more
Every year, huge quantities of food grains in government warehouses is being thrown. Because, they were not distributed for years and got spoiled. Atleast this government should prevent this wastage by distributing to the needy people. more
