Dear all:

Below are the key issues and root causes related to ensuring availability of food for every Indian.

Kindly review them and help identify specific solutions the Government must implement to ensure everyone can afford/find food in Indian and no one sleeps hungry.

We look forward to your inputs!

Ensuring Food for all - Key Issues and Root Causes

1. Government is unable to control food inflation
2. Right to Food policy could not be implemented on grass root level
3. Lack of action against hoarders and black marketing
4. Corruption at all levels in the Public Distribution System
5. Poor checks on quality of food provided by PDS
6. Food grains are stored in FCI storages for years and thereby grains start rotting.
7. Poor storage facilities in FCI storages
8. No monitoring on food wastage in marriage & other functions
9. Subsidized canteens aren’t available in all states such as ‘Amma Canteen’ in Tamilnadu.
10. Corrupt nexus between politicians and FCI, PDS officials
11. Public is unaware about Government food policies
12. PDS shops sell food grains at a higher rate.
13. BPL card is misused; it doesn’t reach the needy ones. more

Government shall immediately remove the brokerage system for buying the crops. A system must be developed that the producers can sell their crop directly to Government so they will earn proper amount for their hard work. This will control the corruption also more
Dear Friends of the BJP, One very serious thing I HAVE TO DISCLOSE HERE. If anyone wants "ACCHE DIN" , then he should first meet the poorest of the poor (Gandhiji's Talisman),in all states, ask him about the kind of grains and service he gets as part of MGNREGA payment .Also the quality of essential commodities he gets from his Ration Shop. The previous regimes used to boast about providing "Food" at RS. ONE ONLY. That too after spending Crores on Food Subsidy, from the Exchequer.Where is all this money going and who are the real beneficiaries of such looting exercises ? Unless such matters are dealt with effectively , by the Central Govt. , this "ACCHE DIN" will just remain another slogan to fool the ignorant masses. more
Dear Sir, if the government department treats citizens of India like a money paying machine, then the department officials start making money and more money. If possible, the reserves in each department should be time to time checked and ensured that it is reaching the poor farmers. It is a crime to let food grains rott. We can form steering committees across India through our citizen network and help India become a more farmer friendly country and save our families from food inflation. more
THE GOVT SHOULD AT LEAST SELL THESE GRAINS BEFORE THEY GET ROTTEN AND PASS ON THE PROCEEDS TO THE SUICIDING FARMERS AT LEAST AND SAVE THEIR LIFE.A RESPONSIBLE GOVT WILL NEVER ALLOW THE FOODGRAINS STOCK TO GET ROTTEN WHEN PRICES OF GRAINS ARE SOARING AND PEOPLE ARE STARVING. more
The BJP govt. is expected to find a permanent solution to this perennial problem of Food-grain mismanagement and maladministration,in the FCI, leading to huge wastage of costly essential commodities bought at the citizen's expense. One way is to introduce the PPP in the storage and distribution of Food-grains. Why not rent / lease out suitable private godowns (with proper specifications) ,if necessary , for the safe storage of Food-grains ? Why not offer contracts to Logistics companies to transport the Food-grains, if the Railways can't do it efficiently ? Why is the quality of Food-grains through the Ration shops so stinking bad that citizens are forced to purchase them from the retail shops ? more
