Fixing of portions served by restaurants
news papers have published news about consumer affairs minister saying that to reduce food waste, portions at restaurants should be fixed. Its a controversial subject. I suggest two simple solutions:
1) every restaurant have a half portion of each dish
2) every restaurant have a child portion or a kids menu
These would be at a lower price than the full dish price say (40-60%)
Do people agree.

Taking into the difficulties of a hotel / restaurant, let there be food pricing in the state. more

Agree with Sri Amit Mishra. As an immediate solution the left over food should be packed as default. Secondly in Buffet system people waste lot of food. Infact the earlier system of table meals in marriages and other functions should be brought back. In this way the wastage is minimal. Avoiding wasting of food should be taught at a young age at home and schools, it is a habit which has to be inculcated. There are families where wasting of food is considered as a very royal habit, and eating till the last morsel a person with miserly streaks! more

In every hotel there should be the system of the exact quantity . I general , the hotels are having the fixed quantity which is some times more than the requirements of the eaters. The excess quantity is either wasted or can be taken back by the customers . Water waste is havoc. The waste in Rajdhani, Duranto , Shatabdi is very high. more

food should not be wasted , it takes so time ,effort resources , it is criminal to waste , buffet system should be encouraged , the downside being , the resturant owners are always afraid that more will be consumed , if they work out average and price accordingly , it will work out profitable , cctv cameras placed strategically should shame food wasters more

Fixing money for different sizes is good idea. But what I suggest to avoid food wastage is after consuming the food, whatever left out be asked to pack it and take home. This way also wastage is avoided and one can get full worth of his money spent. more
