Fictitious or Inflated MRP

It is indeed good to see action on local circles inputs.

There are many products, for ex: crackers, hardware items etc where published MRP is way too high than what the items are sold at. For example: on big crackers MRP will be 1500 but it will sell for 225. This fools the common consumer who may not be aware of the difference.

Are there any laws around this so MRP is close to the real value. Also there should be law such that excise is collected at 10-20% of the value below MRP atleast so such practice of fictitious or inflated mrp ends. more

MRP has become a tool to extract money from the public. The sanctity of MRP has to be established by government. more
There should be a strict MRP rule on China toys also, As MRP printed on china toys are very less than that sold in market. MRP of Rs100 toy is sold in Rs500. I could not understand the matter, Is it doing for shake of save custom duty or else by the importer??? more
when MRP is fixed by the producers or the service providers as they please where is the rational in fixing such a price. There must be some theory to fix MRP. ON crackers or in fact on generic medicines the MRP is almost 100 % more than the production cost. Out of that 90% goes as a commission at different layers. Who will stop. Government ? No chance more
there used to be a MRTP commission in the good old days. Something similar needs to be evolved for a national pricing mechanism norm, so that all such anomalies can be resolved more
MRP is the price the consumer is paying for the introduction of "Free Market System" in India. Manufacturers and service providers are free to charge any price, in complete disregard to the buying capacity of the buyer. Price mark up is practically to insatiate the avarice of the distributors and retailers impelling consumers to work hard to earn and pay the marked up price. Hence, pressure on the consumers to earn from illegal, corrupt and unaccounted sources to meet the market price. A lot of discussion and debate has gone into this issue, but no solution could be found yet. However, the only light of the day is in the charging of Excise Duty on the marked price of the packaged commodities, though, with no benefit to consumers but a definite deterrent to the manufacturers. This formula is being tried in certain items. The discounts given on the MRP are still not sufficient when compared with the margins to the retailers. In the mentioned items, the imposing of Excise Duty is the only answer somewhat. more
