Extortion by Mercedes thru service mandate

I want to make people aware that car manufacturers like Mercedes forces the customers to change engine oil and filter etc. every 12 months. No where in the world this yardstick of 12 months for oil change is not applicable. When asked, they say it is India specific. Nonsense. They want to make ready money. I have asked for any tests, research or academic findings of such a need to change an expensive and supposed to be high quality engine oil after less than 2000 kms. They are unable to give this. But threaten the Indian customers that they will not honor the warranty if I don't to this. According to me this is pure extortion. Maybe consumer forum must look into such unscientific practices of auto makers who want to make money with ease. more

We have also been advised that property of oil degenerates after one year or so.Hence they recommend change of Engine oil every 12 months.Also this is a step towards preventive maintenance so as to minimise unscheduled breakups.I have Honda Amaze car.Probably automobile R & D agency can advise.But many a them will agree to big lobby's recommendation as sale of oil increases. more  
We need to classify 4 wheeler and 2 wheeler sales as super Luxury, Luxury& Public Utility. more  
Maruti also recommends change of oil as the properties degenerste but it is left to customers. more  
A comprehensive report on this aspect should be taken from ARAI, Pune / VRDE / iCAT under Indian Driving Condition (IDC) and Indian Driving Environment (IDE). In Indian driving conditions, the environment is dusty and polluted. However, this may require frequent cleaning / replacement of Air Filter. I personally do not feel the necessity of replacement of engine oil & oil filter for this reason compulsorily every 12 months it he air filter is cleaned / replaced timely. more  
Who are engaged in this kind of malpractices, the manufacturers or the local dealers? more
