Expiry Date for foods sold by eCommerce

This is a very consumer friendly initiative. Question I am having is on expiry date of food products I am ordering on eCommerce sites. Most of them do not show the expiry date of the product sold. Shouldn't the same be made mandatory by fssai or consumer department.

Ordered something with 10% discount a few months back. Turns out only 3 months of the 15 months of shelf life was left.

I hope other identify with this and a policy/rule can be brought in to protect consumer interest. more

Hi Rashmi, I appreciate your action against injustice done to the gullible consumers who fall for the sales gimmicks thrown as discounts . I absolutely agree with you about about the doubts of getting exactly the commodity to your specification . Nothing like trying out in the stores oneself and then paying . Further these on line traders most of them though they say take back the stuff if not suitable , don't do it unless some one persists like you till the end. Warning in FB is another good idea to spread the news to many and get them interested to fight and get what they pay for . Thanks for being an impelling , motivating , driving force to establish the consumers rights . more
My colleagues & I do not purchase anything online; no matter whatever discount they give. From the retailer we take the products in our hand & check it. We check the expiry dates personally, total the bill & then give the goods for packing & make the payment. Online whether it is medicines, food products, clothes, shoes, kitchen utilities, high end mobile phones - 75 % chances are that you will not get exactly what you have ordered or there will be some defect. I was cheated big time by Naaptol (1 high end mobile phone), Aditya Birla - AbofOnline.com (7 clothes) & Snapdeal (2 icing piston & towel). After 6 months of fighting Naaptol was forced to return my amount with delivery charges & interest. My friends & I managed to reduce their sales considerably by keeping on reposting onto Facebook & twitter & on my social issues forums that I conduct. Snapdeal is also going to shut down soon & join the fate of Naaptol. Next is Aditya Birla Online. My relatives who are advocates are going to help me file a case in consumer forum against Aditya Birla. My friends & I are aiming to shut down their entire website. more
Anshu , I appreciate your concern and public interest ; this very post will open many eyes. to look into the manufacture / expiry date of the products particularly food and medicines. Any product that is sold on discount is on a non returnable basis . That is an unwritten dictum ; only when you want to to return it you will be told so . I am not sure the practice prevailing in e-Commerce. more
