Energy

If cow-dung gas is generated in every village then it can be used for cooking purposes and it will benefit in the following ways: 1. Environment, as no wood would be required; 2. No kerosene subsidy. As and when they will progress they would want to have LPG in their homes but if they already have this then they will not need one. Therefore both LPG and kerosene subsidies will get limited. The kerosene subsidy can be done away with totally if every village has this facility. If India grows then LPG connections would also rise meaning more subsidy.

A few months back it was reported in the media that ONGC is burning the gas that it generates by oil drilling in Assam as it has not got environmental clearance for erecting transmission lines that would join its 700 MW power project with the national grid. Please see to it that it gets done so that the gas is not wasted and burning the gas would not save the environment either.

India generates lot of garbage, if it is possible to produce power or any other form of recycling would help a lot. more

Govt. should take concrete steps to replicate the organic farming success cases. This will reduce the use of fertilisers and thereof the use of gas to produce fertiliser and we would be able reduce our imports of gases. Organic farming would improve the fertility and yield of the crops and also stop pollution to underground water which is giving rise to many deadly diseases. more
Fodder wont be a problem as hay, and grass will be available all the time :) more
The answer is government promotes chemical fertilizers by "subsidizing" it but there is no such subsidy for organic manure from cow dung and cow urine. Again LPG gas is subsidized but there is no subsidy on bio gas. Few states give a token subsidy in constructing vermi-compost pit and bio gas system which is way inadequate. If government was to stop subsidy on chemical fertilizer and LPG and increase subsidy for vermi compost and bio gas plant, you can see the shift. Another issue that needs to be tackled, that of fodder for increased number of cattle. Solution is there but its radical so I want to keep quite. more
I know this is not something new but we need to walk the path no matter what the difficulties. Have we thought that this can help us reduce subsidies and foreign exchange. If yes, then why did we not do. We need to change our thought process. The easier options would not help the country the tougher options would. The farmers who are rearing animals can obviously do, somebody from the urban cities need not do it. We have to do things rather than being lazy and wait for somebody to do it. more
There is a complete eco-system that revolves around cow and cow products. We all know of milk and derivatives from milk. Cow urine can be used in preparing several types of organic manure and pesticides which would improve soil health and farm yield.. Cow dung can be used for preparing bio gas which can be save gas and kerosene. It can also be used for running cottage industries. Slurry from the bio gas unit can be used for vermi-composting. This form of organic manure if far more beneficial than fertilizers. What has been mentioned is not a secret or anything new. Officials in agricultural department knows it so do traditional farmers. The obvious question is then why is it not practiced? The answer is two fold - cow rearing is tedious and dirty job which "educated" people do not want to perform. When easy alternatives at "subsidized" rates are available, then why do take headache and pain. more
