Electoral enrollment

I think the Election commission should include NGO's all over mumbai and start Electoral name enrollment for people who have missed out their names in previous elections as well as new Voters. If the Election commission thinks that all people will come to their offices ,it is not possible. More over there is ZERO awareness on Voting and most of the people consider Election Holidays as Picnic and leave mumbai for enjoyment and these same guys then start abusing the elected representatives that they do poor work in the area ,forgetting that IT IS BECAUSE OF THESE NON VOTERS ,crooks get into the Parliament.
The Government should put on heavy penalties to people who do not enroll and vote .This is the only way to make people Vote and all elections should be on working days so that the people can go to office after casting their Vote.
There is still time and Election commission should call on all Ganesh Mandals ,NGO's Navratri Mandals ,Residents ASSOCIATION and start the process immediately.
PLEASE DO NOT WASTE YOUR VOTES more

Dear Pramod, Although I don't want to defend EC on their methods of updation of Election Records, I still disagree with you on few points that you have mentioned. 1. If the EC cannot get proper work done from their own employees who are bound by company ethics and guidelines, how do you expect that people not attached to EC with do a better job. Jobs can be done properly only if they are given to firms with proper terms and condition with penalties and their is concerned monitoring authority. At present it may not be working EC. 2. Those who don't have the time to visit EC Office to get themselves registered, will also not come and vote judiciously. For eg. in India many don't have the time to visit RTO office to get driving license. Some of these same individuals when they get a job in Dubai invest many days and money of their high paying jobs in Dubai; and are ready to wait for 6 months to 2-5 years to get a driving license! Unless they feel the pain and understand the importance of voting they will not register and vote. 3. It is everyone's duty to make their friends, neighbors , colleagues etc aware about their voting rights and their choice of candidates. It is not only the job of the govt or the EC 4. Don't ask the Govt to add penalties. On one side you say the Govt is corrupt and we have to change and on the other hand you want to give the same Govt additional rights to add penalties. If the GOVT in the past 60 years had used the penalties in the existing laws judiciously and with due concern about Indian Citizen then we would not been in the situation as we are in today. Yes, things have to change, but that doesn't mean that we put ourselves in a problem by giving authority to wrong sets of people. more
Dear Balram The Municipal Corporations of the all states are employed to enjoy perks and bonuses + freebies. Now why will they take effort to serve you when their life in insured with pensions etc. For digitization documents one requires skills and and advance scanning equipment which can make one's life easier to acquire the documents and record the documents. But Municipal Corporations are best known for making one's life miserable so we should expect this services from them rather we should be prepared to make their lives miserable. more

pritam ,what we suggest is take all the docs to he Election commission office and atleast egister the names. This you can do it till 28th Mar 2014. Moreover after the elections ,you can make a request to election office and start the enrollment programme thru your team at any nearby school or on your society premises. We had taken up this programme at ghatkopar for 19 days. more
