Direct Electric Connections from Utility Company
The attached has been issued by UPERC (Electricity Regulatory Commission). Does this mean that all flats in a society and all companies in corporate buildings will have to take their own power connection. There is no one to answer questions on the phone number of UPERC. As usual they are clueless about rules their own office is issuing. more

Yes, now in UP, every individual flat is to be given electricity connection by the Supply Co. and not single point supply to the Builder or Society, as upto now. Because they were charging increased tarrif than the Supply Co. more

In UP there is facility of single point supply for residential colonies where connection is on society/builders name. He will install submeter at individual flat owners and will do the billing of each flat holder separately. He has to pay his bill to utility. There were cases where builder has not paid single point bill despite collection from individuals flat owner. To avoid such harassment UPRC has given provision that now individual flat owner can take the own connection if they wish. Those who are happy with it there nothing to do. more

To the ebst of my understanding, even today all connections are in the specific names of individual residents/ owners. The builder only has the responsibility of providing adequate infrastructure for supply of Power to all meters. From meters to residences, laying of cables is the job of the builder. Once homes are allotted, then the owner has to get the meter transferred in his/ her name. Whats new about this and why are some people worried? more
