It has been noticed that some products come printed with different MRPs within the state of production & outside the state. This is purely profiteering by the companies resorting to such practices. Such companies are looting the consumers and this needs to be curtailed. After the implementation of GST, the tax component remains same in different states, only the cost of transportation gets added. This added cost of transportation is meagre compared to the difference in the MRPs. For expample 'Bana Rich' banana powder is 130/- for 200 gms within Kerala & 160/- outside Kerala. Now the transportation cost will not add up Rs.30/- for a small packet of 200 gm. more
While I fully concur with the rationale of the resource, it should also be remembered that there is no price control/ regulation on most of the items (whether consumable or only usable) in India. Generally, it is the experience all over the world price regulation leads to impeded growth (ridiculed as Congress growth) and stagnant economy. However, the solution lies in intervention of Consumer Affairs Ministers of states interacting periodically and rationalising the prices of affected commodities. Regret we don't have both enlightened and well intentioned political executive or independent (at least to the extent possible) beauracracy. more
ULTIMATE TRUTH :M.R.P means Maximum Retail Price and the retailer can sell at any price less than that. Now the question is that how long is the chain between producer cum wholesaler to the ultimate consumer? The longer the chain the more will be the profit pumping and hence larger the price. Now one can only say that there can be "ONE TAX ONE NATION", again here one tax means not one tax amount but only one tax rate. Customers are confusing and loosing at this point only. Ultimate truth is that there cannot be " SAME PRICE THROUGH OUT ONE NATION". more
India is market driven economy, if there is too much profit in some item, sooner or later other players will come into the market with a similar product at a lesser price. Everything in a free market cannot and should not be controlled by Govt, otherwise it will add to red tapism and in worst cases even monopoly by certain players. more
