Development of Children - Inputs on Solutions

Dear all:

Below are some of Issues and Causes related to the Development of Children in India. Kindly review them and share your inputs on solutions.

With 50% of our population under the age of 25, it is critical that our children grow well and achieve their highest potential.

With your inputs we want to submit the whitepaper and hope strong actions are taken by the Government to ensure effective development and education of India's children.

We look forward to your inputs!

Development of Children - Key issues and root causes
1. Children are overburdened with books and homework
2. There is too much peer pressure
3. Children are not getting enough nutritious food and clean drinking water
4. Teachers and parents aren’t focusing on a child’s physical fitness
5. The spirit of adventure & curiosity is not being developed
6. There is a complete lack of skill development at school level
7. Most of the schools don’t focus on practical knowledge
8. Most schools do not teach the importance of hygiene
9. Talent of a child is not being appreciated and harnessed in most schools. Education is mostly one way
10. Most of the schools do not provide sex education to their students
11. Ethics and integrity is not being taught in majority of the schools
12. Schools don’t encourage children to participate in extracurricular activities
13. Parents and teachers themselves don’t live the values that are being taught in school and hence children can see the disconnect between talk and action
14. Children are made to do what their parents like
15. In urban areas and nuclear families, both parents are busy working with little time for kids
16. Kids from well to do families have little hunger in them to succeed and win
17. Most of the children from well to do families are addicted to gadgets, internet and television
18. Kids from poor urban families and rural families living in 1 room homes often hear their parents having sex thereby end up being confused, angry and having little respect for women
19. Government schools lack the basic infrastructure & private schools are unaffordable for a common man
20. Many schools don’t have good playgrounds to encourage outdoor sports more

I dont believe any of the points mentioned above can make India a better nation. I agree with Bhooma on the way kids are treated in Schools and home. I have seen a change though in the area I live. There are some pointers from my own experience for parents. 1. Meet the teacher and not the name of the school ( for kids below 6) 2. There are teachers now who go the extra mile to make your young one comfortable and ensure that he learns while playing. 3. Dont go by the name of the school. It is a brand like Nestle / Pepsi created by Media 4. number of IItians or doctors is also not a criteria to choose a school. 5. Look for infrastructure and culture in the school. If teachers are respecting each other then your kid will also learn that and vice versa 6. More so, talk to your kid and understand weather s/he likes it or not. Most of the times once the admission is done, parents job is over 7. Understand your child. It is not like our time, kids have lot more exposure than we had. They have the caliber to grasp and understand whatever you throw at them. So ensure that you are throwing the best that you can afford and get 8. Having same education for all can create good machines but not good humans. All 5 fingers in the hand are not of the same size. There is a very good initiative taken by Telangana govt. They have made education till 12th Free. This will allow education to all and also bring down the monopoly of private schools. At the end these are just my thoughts a common Indian more
Children's point of view is not considered at home and public domain. Even in schools teacher takes the centre stage. Children are either victims of bossing over of parents and teachers or have to silently bear the neglect of them. They are not allowed to live their dreams for most of the time they chase the dreams of their parents. Their social milieu is different from that of their parent's but yet they are not equipped with enough help from home or school to meet the challenges of the outer world. They easily fall a prey to their parent's undue desire that they should score very well, play sports and win prizes in sports, academics, music and other activities. more
