Current Model of Electoral Funding - Inputs on Root Causes

Dear Friends,

Thanks for all the inputs so far on the various priorities/subjects.

Fighting elections in India is expensive and as it stands we do not have a well organized and transparent system for raising electoral funding.

Here is a summary of Key Issues highlighted by you on Election Funding:
1 Most of the parties are funded by businesses
2 No audited financial statements are made by the parties
3 Black money finds excellent usage during elections
4 ‘Chanda’ is collected in cash from the market on the pretext of better services when in power
5 The details of the funding is not made public
6 No receipts issued for the collections made
7 Details of how much spent is not disclosed
8 No effective mechanism to check if candidates or parties have exceeded the spending limit

Please find Root Causes to these above issues. Once we do that, we will work on identifying Solutions under a separate post.

Thanks for your participation!

Crime and corruption are on the rise in any field including elections. The checking machinery and personnel are inadequate. The population increases by leaps and bounds , but not the number of Police or Vigilance officers or Courts proportionately. Have a law that politicians or parties should not have too many meetings, assemblies, speaches, etc.l Only one such function should be allowed per candidate at his constituency and one for the party. The candidates may be allowed to speak before Doordarshan channel once for an hour or so and the same can be reported by the newspapers the next day. No more publicity should be allowed. more
Political parties must work like a corporate with cooperative ideas inbuilt.party leaders must not look at their financial and post oriented benefits.MPs,assembly leaders and corporators should not take themselves like a ruler or king of their territory. They are law makers and employed by people for betterment of people.
