Covid-19, Media and Government

I just fail to understand, why the Media has to be dumb every now and then, and simultaneously, the government being ignorant of the power of media. I say so, because I have some serious questions in mind...

First, why is media interested in showing places still crowded with people. What is the advantage of showing the number of persons affected by Covid-19, number recovered and number of dead.

How does it help anyone? Utterly useless. Repeated telecast of such figures removes the importance that they have, from the minds of average citizens.

Why can’t media show he following, and why can’t the government make media show it all ?

First, “The Bhilwara Pattern” where the Covid-19 appears to have come under control, mainly because the authorities are strict and the citizens are co-operating.

Knowing the likely solution, people may cooperate with the authorities, even if the authorities are more strict.

Second, I saw one video clip on Facebook, where an American doctor is explaining with proper figures (and simultaneously working out the details) that the availability of Ventilators is so poor in the USA, it is only 1 ventilator available for 50 persons needing them. SHE ADDED THAT IT MEANS ONLY ONE WILL SURVIVE AND 49 WILL DIE.

For country like India, ventilator availability could be 1 for 500 or 1 for 1000, I do not know. But it is definitely not sufficient. This MUST be highlighted using proper words.

Third, I had seen earlier some video clip somewhere, which had shown that persons in the final stages of Covid-19, could not get ventilator in time, and were breathless. Video showed average person, a senior citizen & a child, all three suffering due to non-availability of ventilator.

VIDEO WAS SCARY.

If everyone, especially the uneducated lot staying in larger cities, sees it, they shall get scared and shall remain in their respective homes, than loitering out for no reason, causing concern for authorities as well as other residents of the locality.

It is high time that someone looks at the issue in creating mindsets of the people, to make then understand the seriousness of the issue (even by scaring them, if required), and making them stay at home.

And for this, the government MUST continue the lock down ONLY IN THE AREAS IDENTIFIED AS “HOT SPOTS” AND MUST LIFT THE LOCK DOWN IN REST OF THE AREAS, may be temporarily, till further notice.

Only then everyone will understand that there is no choice and only if one stays at home and keeps the locality Covid-19 free that lock down shall get lifted. more
