Congrats Food Circle

We had discussed the issue of GM foods in multiple circles and how many imported foods selling in fancy stores were Genetically Modified.

FSSAI has come up with the attached regulation yesterday. All imported foods now have to declare GM and non GM.

Kudos to all members. We must also get FSSAI management again in circles. Think there has been some changes recently. more

FSSAI is not effective as it should be. This requirement should have been notified much earlier. more

So far Gov of India has not permitted GM food items n our supreme court has also directed without proper detail studies of any food, food grains n oil seeds crops no such products to be marketed in India for human or animal consumption. But in recent past some issues related to Cotton , Mustard n soyabeans were in thru the media. Somewhere, it was also reported that some farmers have already started using it . If such cases are there, how our food ministry n FSSAI are going to check it. Even the BT Cotton, were projected as very good for growing cotton but in many parts, the crops have failed due to certain types of insects, n caterpillars. If such BT COTTON seeds have gone to the oil millers n that edible oil is sold in the market, people might have consumed also. So how this latest promulgation of regulation is going to help, or check or control it. These are some of the serious issues needs proper ,detail study, checks. Jai Hind more
This is an important development much required for clear and honest labelling.I hope the food which are imported in the UK will also be compliant. Santosh (UK) more
