Many of the traders and smes are receiving notices for prior years from the commercial tax departments. These notices are coming in a highly aggressive way. SMS on day 1 email on day 2 and postal mail on day 3. Some of them are complaining that this is the only way for commercial tax guys to make some money before its all over. Some other traders are saying that this is very inconvenient. at a time when they are trying to register for gst and get a system and compliant invoicing in place, they are having to deal with these past notices. A few said that the commerical tax depts have been asked by the govt itself to clear up pendencies.
Whatever it is traders and smes not happy with the timing of these notices. more
No, I know of the tax people ringing up and telling trader to pay 4000/- as tax as their dues the next day. This when the person has filed his Vat returns and paid vat properly. This is for year 2011-2 and 2016-7. On giving the copy of challan as proof of payment, the ST officer told to pay 20000/- and started belittling the C A who accompanied the trader. They went for appeal and so get the next notice with two people coming to the shop with another notice for like amount. Similarly forest department is also billing after July with VAT and FDT charges though that is illegal. more
Naveen ji, how you are receiving these complaints from traders? I think this is just another way to spread rumors and blame some officials for bribery without any proof or logic. more
It is a known fact that govenment officials do ask for a substantial sum for closing cases as deemed assesment or else ask for unnecessary documentation which is not logical and feasible. As to if the goods are transported thru small parcel services or speed post services then how can you find the value of goods , TIN Number , Invoice Number on speed post and registered parcel receipt if the postal department does not print the same on their receipts more
