Colossal wastage of electricty

On one side the Ministry of Energy showing adv TV and other media advising users to educate on conserving electricity like switching off light if not in use, even educating for not leaving TVs and other electronic equipments in standby mode as it consumes electricity.
One can appreciate the approach through all these adv is that small drops of water can develop into a rivulet. But look at the colossal wastage of electricity by various Govt. agencies by switching on the street lights along with the flood light masts even when the sun is quite bright. Position is equally worse in switching off these public lights.

Recently, there was a news item that the power consumption of street light in Govinpuri itself is about 1.5Megawatts. One can easily understand the wastage of electricity at the national level everyday by this avoidable act of govt. agencies.
Since electricity cannot be preserved or stored generation of electricity continues. It results into wasteful consuming of our resources like coal which is getting depleted on one hand and the consumers are deprived of the power on the other hand.
Can somebody suggest how to sensitize the govt. agencies or the people can come forward to save this national wastage. A small example is that when I go for morning walk and find the park lights are on even after the dawn, I switch off these. more

recently in Delhi GK-1 park, N-block during last one month all the park light bulbs, glass bulb covers as well its wired mesh covers have been stolen, probably after announcement that all bulbs will be replaced by LED Bulbs by govt. more
We may request Mr. Piyush Goyal's view and action plan to start with. The address of the power ministry website is http://powermin.nic.in/ more
Points highlighted by Mr. Jain are very relevant. Power conserved is power generated, something we as a nation are finding a challenge. I wish all citizens take this as a responsibility to set right such practices. It is a fact that street lights are a major source of wastage. One possible solution for this could be to display phone number of the agency responsible for shouting down power of street lights, if found on during the day. Likewise, public display of various complaints/ service sections of various departments along with an advisory to that effect. more
It is true that top level officials in the ministry are putting all their efforts to bring the change where as the ground level staff is not in a mood to change that fast. I am a witness to the filth in the nook and corners of Government offices, specially, where public foot fall is high. The maintenance staff is just deaf to the Swachh Bharat campaign. So is the case of energy conservation. Fans, Tube lights, Computers and other electrical equipments in Government offices are the major suckers of the scarce energy. The root cause is the reluctant office staff who neither understands the problem nor willing to follow the instructions. It is a serious problem! more
Thanks for finding it helpful but I am anxious to find ways/suggestions to save this colossal wastage. more
