3. Water recycling plants should be made mandatory for industries, hospitals, hotels, etc.
4. Awareness should be spread among people through all the mediums to preserve drinking water
5. Stored water should be purified properly through new technological methods
6. Water purifying chemicals should be made easily available in markets
7. Water tanks should supply water in areas where there is a shortage of drinking water
8. Water tanks must be cleaned regularly
9. Effective Rainwater Harvesting structures should be made mandatory for new constructions
10. Packaged drinking water should be provided by the Government at reasonable prices during peak summers months

Availability of Clean Drinking Water – Root Causes

1. Pipelines have not been laid to all places
2. Demand for drinking water is high

13. Harmful chemicals and sewage waste is dumped into the water bodies
14. Religious ceremonies are performed in rivers, making the water not treatable
15. There are no quality checks on drinking water supply

The major cause of scarcity of drinking water is pollution in Rivers due to discharge of Sewage in open drains which are meant to collect rain water ONLY & discharge in the rivers. if Government will apply BIOREMEDIATION TECHNOLOGY to treat sewage in flowing rivers a quick solution to control this pollution in rivers. Then we should think for Small size Sewage Treatment Plants in each locality instead of CENTRALIZED TREATMENT PLANTS. In this way we can generate an alternate source of water full of nutrients and can be used for landscaping & irrigation. Thus we can reduce load on ground water use in such activities. Think Over if more details are required please do write to me i can help in this matter. more
developers should be restricted strictly to encroach water bodies which of late has become menacing problem and rain water harvesting / ground water charging be made compulsory for all building constructed above 150 sq meters area. more
Economical domestic and commercial water filters preferably running without electricity with low cost of replaceable parts should be approved by govt. In some areas or to BPL families, it can be subsidized. It will considerably reduce water borne diseases. more
Important point is to Preserve the water bodies. There should be a massive movement for rainwater harvesting. This should include all Private,Government and individuals. Mechanism to recharge ground water apart from brackish water all the water should be treated with effective methods and should be used to recharge the ground water [bathing ,washing and cleaning of utensils] . Planting of trees should be mandated and there should be enough space between buildings and minimum of 5 trees should be planted for a ground. more
