Chinese products and Indian economy

Chinese products have flooded Indian markets. This is having a disastrous impact on Indian economy especially on sectors which are job intensive meaning they create more jobs. Take for instance garments, this is an important area for job generation in the economy and it creates local jobs in SME sector. Unfortunately cheap imports from China of ready made shirts, trousers, skirts and children wear floods Indian markets. Due to this rampant dumping and the cheap price of the Chinese ready made garments Indian SME garments makers are closing down. With it is going down thousands of jobs across the country.
Ironically, Chinese products have decimated SME makers of idols, lamps, decorative items and toys in the country. These are areas where semi-skilled or skilled labor is employed but these skills are not easily transferable. So when these jobs vanish these skilled labour are forced to do menial construction jobs.
What should be the government's approach to protecting jobs from Chinese imports into the country.
We need the citizens to weigh in on this problem. more

But the bigger irony is that products of many so called big names of Indian industries are being manufactured in China and marketed in India with Indian Brand name. Buyer think they are buying Indian product but actually they are buying chinese make item. Let Indian Govt. should think why this situation arise. Chinese goods are cheap and unreliable only because our own business people go to China and ask for lowest quality products at cheapest possible price. Indian consumer laws are weak and do not protect the consumers. Further, Govt is very slow in levying anti dumping duty on such low priced imports. Quality of chinese products sold in US, Europe and Japan is very very good as selling poor quality goods invites very heavy penalty on the sellers in those countries. more
