my daughter has to make repairs to her flat as her ceilings have crashed and fallen down. It is an old building. The repair contractor has quoted a price of Rs.4 to 5 lakhs and has added 18% GST to it which comes to about Rs.90,000/-! There is no relief to the consumer although the traders and the contractor will benefit. Can anyone help me out as this is not a beautifying procedure but an essential one so that people can live in their house once again. more
Its simple. If you get a mason with a helper, and buy materials to get the repairs done yourself, no GST is payable. It is payable only on materials bought from market. Best way to to do is t get labour and buy material yourself. If the work is large you can appoint a labour contractor to supply labour on contract and supply material yourself. Where are you located. If in Delhi, I can help. I got mine done recently when the bathroom and kitchen roofs fell down. more
please get a quotation from housejoy phone app https://www.housejoy.in/mumbai-home-services Thank you, Ramakrishna Mallya, Bangalore, Ex-ASL (TCS) more
Yes in case the contractor is not registered with GST authorities then entire GST will have to be borne by your daughter. In that case, cost of material and labour should be separated. And more intelligent people in this circle may advise the treatment of GST on labour. more
1) Take the estimate in writing 2) See if the estimate is having GST number 3) GST is also charged on the building material by the supplier. This is to be deducted from the GST to be charged from your daughter. But this kind of information will make the contractor run away. If he is honest and right person, he will do everything without any fuss. more
