CABLE TV price increase by the Govt

CABLE TV
The Indian government has decided on the new rates for cable TV.
With this, the present number of free channels are estimated at 180. In the new scheme, the number of the free channel as informed by TRI will be 100. For these channels, the citizen is forced to pay Rs. 130 + GST. Even if you don’t want to view channel, the government will force you to pay. These free channels are manly news channel which is mainly government propaganda.
On top of this, each channel you want to view will have to be paid. This decision by TRAI Once implemented, the government will increase the rate per channel.
Presently Government has not invested in infrastructure. The infrastructure consists of Coaxial cable or fiber optic cables. Further, depending on the type of infrastructure, Transmitter / node & amplifiers are required. These equipment are supplied & maintained by the operators.
The government will give 10% of the money collected to these operators. The amount of 10% is found insufficient by the operators.
Hence the operator had a meeting in Mumbai. Around 3000 cable operators from Maharashtra did attend. The meeting was chaired by TRAI. As TRAI was in no mood to listen to Operators, hence the decision was taken by the operators was, that they will switched off the Cable TV system on 27th December between 1900 to 2100 hours. This blackout was implemented on all India basis. TRAI woke up & kept the next date of implementation as 1st February 2019.
During this period, the operator's association will meet TRAI. It is my view that TRAI will compromise with the operator
After this, the burden of increased rates will be on the citizen who is the end user.

By the rough calculation, it is found that the estimated outgoing will be around Rs. 5400 to 12500.

What is not understood by our citizen is why the Government wants to make money the system running without any problem since last several years.

Before it is too late, I request citizen of India to take up this matter TO TRAI & also to Hon. minister & Hon. Prime Ministers.

I appeal that the Citizen must awake, in their own interest & protest against such unilateral government & TRI decision. If not, you will be paying the charge which will exponentially increase every year, as per government decision. more

This is the latest Management gizmo that our bright b-school grads have devised. The entrance fee concept! Put a steep entrance fee and then offer seemingly huge discounts! The minimum plan now is Rs 154 pm (of 28 days as invented by media companies) for watching mostly trashy 100 free channels! Compare this with the current Dish TV Joy package; even with many trashy channels South India does not watch, it is a sensible buy at Rs 99. Would you pay Rs 154 to enter Big Bazaar to buy its sale items? C'mon TRAI,Whose side are you on? Of course, dish tv would jack up its joy package rates come feb 1. more
Telecommunication Dept. won't seems in action. It seems they shook their hands with the Channels and Cable Operators. more
With all these changes they should reduce time spent on advertisements and the number of brakes. Many a times you loose interest in seeing a particular program. more
The charges as mentioned in the post are not for the free channels, which are in addition to those paid channels included in each of their packages. Generally, all popular channels in Hindi as also in several regional languages are added in each of the packages excepting those special channels, like, English, sports, movies in various languages, various channels for children, HD channels and so on, inclusion of which gradually increases the prices of the packages. more
It is full of confusion..... more
