BAN Loudspeakers at ALL Places of Worship

Noise pollution is a very serious issue and is affecting the health of all. Every one living anywhere in our country, is aware of violation of Supreme Court ruling by the religious places of worship 24*7*365 days using loudspeakers between 10 P.M. and 6 A.M. Even during the period 6 A.M. to 10 P.M., the noise level exceeds the maximum prescribed by Ministry of Environment & Forests. These loudspeakers keep blaring even in Silence Zones e.g. Schools, Hospitals and Nursing Homes etc.
Therefore the Governments both at Centre and States should BAN Loudspeakers at all places of worship in the country. It should be mandatory to take permission from Police to use loudspeakers for festivals only. Police should give permission with certain conditions so that noise generated from loudspeakers is within the Decibel levels prescribed under Environment Protection Act and no loudspeakers should be allowed after 10 P.M.
To control noise pollution effectively, Police should be advised to take suo-moto cognizance of violation of Supreme Court ruling, without waiting for a Complaint. more

Absolutely right, there should not be any exemptions. Our law enforcing authorities are so powerless before the local goons or politicians that any number of instructions from any authority will be circumvented. Considering a very bitter fact that we are a nation of highly irresponsible and mostly uncultured people, complete ban on the manufacturing and use of loud speakers appears to be the best solution. more
Sound polution in general must be addressed.1-check on horns for two wheelers ,four wheelers ,buses, transport vehicles.Replacing authorized horn must be punished.2-Ban on honking .3- Ban on loud music 4- Ban on noise producing music after 10 PM 5- Ban of loud sound system usage around schools ,religious places ,hospitals, colleges, old age homes,institutions.6- Ban on religious music used in,marriages, festivals, processions, public meetings parties in open areas 6- Arrest and punish vehicles who remove sound mufflers and drive around . 7- Ban on open air parties, bhajans, marriages, meetings using sound equipment ,religious places like temples, mosques, churches ,gurdwaras even on religious days. Toll free numbe, email, phone ,SMS must be provided for complaining and must be attended to .No VIP preferences should be given . Unnecessary hooter use by private or govt vehicles except ambulance fire services and police patrols attending dire emergencies. more
Agreed. No one has right to disturb or bother anyone. Actually it's self discipline . more
I think that one also needs to understand the various parameters instead of just banning- 1. Decibel levels - Upto 75 decibels is what is pleasing to human ears - Upto 135 decibels is what is acceptable to the human ears By the night, all loudspeakers can perform, provided they are playing below 75 decibel level. This requires not loud speakers, but good quality music speakers. ( http://www.noisehelp.com/noise-level-chart.html ) 2. Frequency of sound - For an adult, the frequency between 10 hz and 10 khz is what is audible, whereas for children 20hz to 20khz is audible. Anything below or above this will amount to noise or unperceived vibrations which can be harmful. 3. Quality of the music - Pleasant music comes from soothing bhajans, kirtans, carols, ghazals, sufi songs, light classical music, etc. - Unpleasant music comes from loud disco numbers in the name of jagrans that is practised in some parts of India (most parts of India do not practise it) (instead bhajan, kirtan should be tried), loud calls for azaan which are more of noise than musical quality (they could have tried ghazal or sufi music instead), rock band belching out noise, bomb blasts, siren, etc. 4. Social acceptability - Based on the geo-political situation and geographic location , the human ear perceives sounds in a different manner. For example in a cold weather, one may prefer to hear "hot music". Whereas in a hot summer, one needs to "cool off" with cool music. The requirement of switching off the loudspeakers are more based on only the decibel levels. Whereas a genuine sound management system will take care of most of the above parameters. The way of controlling should be as below- 1. Have instruments to check all the parameters and link them with the audio control mechanism. In future the companies which provide the speakers and the audio systems, should come with such auto control mechanisms which automatically control the music systems, based on these parameters. more
Agreed! One's freedom can not be harming or disturbing others. Why only religious places, it should be banned all over so as not to disturb others. Even the marriage parties going through residencial areas with very loud music is undesirable. The permitted decible levels have to be respected by one and all. more
