Ashram Underpass

The Ashram underpass work was to start in July 19 and be completed in a year. It is now over two years and no commitment as to its completion. It is understandable that the pandemic restrictions delayed completion. But what does not pass muster is the snail pace progress even now when the construction is on. Did no one think of making up for lost time by working a night shift too ? Is there a law prohibiting night construction work ? No public notice from the PWD to keep the public abreast of reasons for delay ? No accountability for the inconvenience caused to the public for this prolonged period ? The CM in a blitzkrieg ad campaign last year took credit for flyovers being built ahead of schedule and lower than budgeted cost. Perhaps underpasses were not part of this plan.
The roads around the construction area are not motorable ! It’s a free for all for traffic from all sides as there are no cops to control the flow, particularly on the intersection of the traffic moving on the slip road from the Lajpat Nagar side and traffic moving towards Nizamuddin.
Perhaps a visit by the Delhi PWD minister should make an incognito visit to see for himself the degree of prolonged inconvenience caused here to lakhs of people daily. more

Any such work that PWD does, takes ages, results in a lot of cost overruns. They sleep over the works. Ashram Chowk is in a mess due to PWD's sleepy heads. more
Mr. Padam citizen will bear the cost of work. No politician bear the cost. They are free to roam without paying tolls and many benefits. more
The issue of Ashram Chowk underpass has been aptly espoused by Shri Arun Seth. The facts depicted in his post is ground reality, and public is suffering not only in terms of money spent on excess petrol consumed due to slow traffic but also delay caused in reaching to workplace, maintenance cost of vehicles increased due to 'ubad khabad kacha' road and many other inconvenience factors entailed with these bad conditions. We would request the Hon'ble LG of Delhi to order an inquiry to fix the accountability on all concerned Ministers and the Project Incharge of Delhi Govt. for taking departmental action under the prevailing statutes of service laws. If the contractor is unable to discharge its responsibility, his contracts should be terminated by imposing penalty, liquidated damages and forfeiture of Security Deposit including the risk and cost of retendering and award of work to a new contractor. AG (Audit) may also look into the matter for appropriate audit report and assess the loss caused in this case as well as to recommend action to be taken against the erring authorities and the contractor. Looking forward to suitable action to be taken by the Government of Delhi. more
Govt deptt really works on snail speed, PWD officials are least bothered for increase in cost as tax payers money. Authorities never work in the interest of country .If officials are not penalised nothing will improove. more
It is not clear who bears the cost of this work? Is it known to anyone? If so, kindly share the information. more
