Allotment of lockers by sbi
Since 10 years i have my saving account in sbi Bopal Ahmedabad.
I requested for locker thrice in a year they said that I am on waiting list.
After seven years of my vigorous efforts I left trying.
At that time a new branch sbi was opening near my house.I applied there also.the following was reply from bank officer.
We are ready to give you locker please visit us.I visited they gave me offer as under
if you want locker you will have to invest in our suggested product.The amount of invest ment must be 10 lac.I replied that I have fds in your other branch.I have already invested in sbi mf.now I cannot invest more as I am at the age of 64 I cannot have more fund.I requested to consider my old investment but they never agreed.In pvt bank I got locker without any investment.I do not understand how sbi is operating.
They do black marketing or under table dealing.
My personal advice to all .Please clear all the points before opening new account/doing new investment in bank. more

I also faced similar situation. Last year I was looking for some investment opportunity of 3 L per annum and evaluating options. This branch of SBI was next door to our residence and we approached for both investment and locker together. It was ok for me to go with any of the investments and for me I thought to myself I already lost few months of thinking over this idea. Finally I got a locker which was also required. Though my self assessment is I gained on my efforts, after reading this post I see I this is right to have this kind of arrangement. Apparently when I get transferred to other location it becomes evident that I can no longer get into such arrangements of investment to get a locker. I am convinced that locker should be independent of investments to be made and to the extent locker charges can be increased to make it viable for the banks. Most importantly Bank employees should be prevented from using carrot of investments / bargain for providing locker. Thank you for your post. more

what about lodging complaint online on customer care to see there respose. even i had faced the same problem and had lodged complaints online and waiting for response more

This is followed by most of the banks which have a branch for a long time and are full. They do this to service their most profitable customers. If you believe they are doing unethical dealing, you can do the same ! Invest Rs. 5Lakhs or whatever in a Liquid Fund or a Short Term Debt Fund. This will earn more than a FD and best part is you can withdraw/close it as soon as your locker is opened and they won't even come to know of it. more

My suggestion is, we can resolve our problem with some alternate solution, but main reason for problem remains untill we take corrective measures and take them to the task. Going to another bank is not a solution. Staff in public sector bank staff wants you to go to another bank so that their burden is reduced. less accounts in their branch means less work for them. And they use this shortage of lockers to fulfill their targets of deposits. I got my locker without any deposit in SBI itself. we have to fight and my experience is, right representation to right senior managers / zonal office / vigilance officer gets you the results. why you should go to a branch which is far from your residence when lockers are there in nearby branch? fighting once will get you convenience for lifetime. and the same staff will be behaving properly to all subsequent customers. more
