I was having a landline and internet connection of Airtel in my Delhi Residence for last 8 -9 years. Since i found that almost all the service providers are similar in service, i was persisting with Airtel. Now I understood that MTNL (Delhi version of BSNL) is providing a better and faster Internet connection and phone I switched over to MTNL, which is giving a better service. During May 2015 I requested Airtel to disconnect their services. I was told that the connection will be closed within next 7 days. After 8 days also they didn't disconnect. Then I started getting new new offers and promises of better service etc. None of the new offers were acceptable. Then finally one of their executives called me and said 'your bill for the month of May has been waived off, please try us out for another month and if you are satisfied continue with us". Then I said 'ok it is acceptable to me, but send your offer in writing'. He replied that he cannot send a written letter but shall send you an email. I accepted that, but in spite of waiting no email came. So I paid off their May bill along with delayed payment charges also. Some time in mid June, I screamed at them over the telephone then they gave me a disconnection request number etc. Now they are serving a bill for the month of June 2015. (Rs 1,500/-). Can anyone who has the knowledge of law/ rules and regulations advise me what action i should take? Am I obliged to pay this bill? They have started making regular telephone calls. I am a retired , senior citizen, and finds such calls very disturbing. Some one please kindly advise me ASAP. KAS NAIR more
I am similarly placed as Sadasiwan and facing similar problems with Airtel. They provided me with a fixed landline and broadband connection for Rs.1299 unlimited data download at 4 Mbps speed but during the first month itself I realised that the "unlimited data" according to them was first 10GB at 4 Mbps and once that was consumed the speed would come down to 512 kb per second. After three months they gave me another plan of Rs.649 at 2 Mbps speed. Here also it proved to be unlimited for first 8 GB and then 512 kb. When I threatened them with disconnection, they added 10 GB more. But I never got the 18 GB(8+10) at 2 Mbps and every month the speed got reduced to 512 kb after I had consumed 8 GB. I have now refused to pay there bill till they provide me the balance of 30 GB for three months(@ 10 GB per month), pay me a compensation of Rs. 10 lakhs for causing inconvenience, mental agony and harassment to a senior citizen. I have also asked them to let me know the Consumer Forum which has jurisdiction over them. more
I had similar experience with Reliance. I finally dumped their instrument in their outlet and took a receipt for the same. They still have to refund the security deposit although more than two years have passed. Earlier they had their outlets which I visited and everytime they said it will take 45 days. Now they have shut all their outlets in Pune. more
For disconnection always visit the their outlet / showroom, fill out the disconnection form or application, pay the outstanding bill till that day and collect the written acknowledgement. This way it will be ensured that the connection is definitely disconnected on the same day and their will be no further bills. The call-centres are outsourced staff and once you speak to them they forward your request to the company, which takes time. The outsourced tele-callers get a commission on retaining the customer, so they will again start calling you and try to convince you to continue using the services. If you agree, then you will again get the bill and the disconnection request will stand cancelled. Whenever the connection is disconnected you will have to pay the bill till that date. So it is better that you visit the outlet / showroom for the disconnection. more
Instead of accepting their terms without any written document you should have written to them mentioning their terms and expressing your gesture to accept their terms on good faith. That way you would have had some document to show. These companies and their men do not have any ethics and morality. They will simply deny their verbal commitment if challenged. Any way, first thing what you should do is take the advise of competent persons as advised by Mr. Monjul Halder. And one thing for sure to do is let us, the users, stand united against these companies, spread the news and boycott them. more
