ACs can’t produce personal supply of clean air for you to breathe

ACs available in the Indian market don’t have the technology to remove gaseous pollutants like NOx, SO2, benzene and ozone, among others. Technology to remove acute pollutants like PM2.5 from air hasn’t even been fully developed; world’s first ACs which can actually clean air of PM2.5 have only been developed in the last couple of years, still years away from mass production and reach of your pockets.

Indoor air maybe be more poisonous

Please note that your indoor air most probably is way more toxic than outdoor air. This will be so due to additional load of indoor air pollutants like volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and radiation. Most indoor air pollutants are proven or suspected carcinogens. Indoor air pollution becomes even more critical in air-conditioned spaces as the limited ventilation and air change traps pollutants and builds up their concentration, increasing exposure and health hazard.

This is one of the reasons why America and Europe have stringent indoor air quality standards for their buildings as they are aware that even with cleaner air outside, their people can get really sick because of indoor air pollution, heightened by air conditioning. In India, we have no indoor air quality standards to start with. There it is recommended to open the windows for few hours daily to let the toxins out. Not sure same can be advised for Delhi. more

ACs only remove dust particles and bacteria. A person requires 11000 ltrs of air per person per day to meet normal oxygen supply.A room 10x10x10ft is 3mx3mx3m is equal to 27000ltrs. Discount space taken by bed etc, So air in the room must fully change every 24h. So too much of AC with closed doors is healthy.Add the polluted air around and the situation gets worse. Strategically, or at the macro level, excessive use of AC adds to pollution. Surprisingly, we Indians need more of AC etc than the Europeans from colder climate. Answer lies in developing aptitude for nature and outdoors and keeping specific potted plants in our homes. more
First of all, split ACs just cool the air within the room. Say, overnight, you have the AC on, you will be breathing the same air that you breathe out. At least, window ACs have a provision of inernal/external air selection. External air is brought in, around 10%. Hence, split ACs are much more dangerous, you could be breathing jus CO2. It is advised to leave a door or window ajar by about an inch or so. more
To my knowledge most ACs of reputed companies have some air filters. But it is worth that ACs should legally have a STAR RATING (like energy consumption) based on air purification capabilities. My suggestion :have indoor plants generating oxygen. more
True. But here inside and outside air is homogeneous air.we in India need stringent norms. more
Sounds logical. But are you an expert. Is this complete information ? more
